Common questions
How is a generator bill calculated?
Bill = a fixed fee for your amp tier + (kWh on your meter × the official price per kWh for that month).
Who sets the price per kWh?
The Ministry of Energy and Water, every month, based on the average price of diesel and the average dollar rate during the month.
When can the owner charge 10% more?
In villages above 700 m altitude, and in cities where the distribution network runs over 300 m.
Can the owner add other fees?
No. The ministry bans maintenance fees for the generator or network, extra fees for households using solar, and VAT that isn’t officially registered with the Ministry of Finance.
Is a meter mandatory?
Yes. The Energy Ministry requires generator owners to follow the Ministry of Economy and Trade decision to install meters.
Where do I complain about an overcharge?
To the Consumer Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Economy and Trade, or your municipality.
